12 strangers take part in Danny Dyer lookalike contest in East London
A Danny Dyer lookalike contest popped up in London with 12 contestants vying for the title.
Joysgg, 31, attended the lookalike contest in Hoxton Square, East London, during her lunch break yesterday (July 23).
She found out about the contest after seeing posters advertising the event around the Shoreditch area.
The 12 Danny Dyer hopefuls went through four rounds of competition until a winner was crowned by a panel of judges.
The event was to promote season two of Sky's Mr. Bigstuff, and Dyer's castmates Ryan Sampson and Harriet Webb acted as judges.
Joysgg, an account and PR manager from London, said: "It was a really fun experience."
"Even though it was clearly set up professionally, it had a very communal feel to it."
"And the Dannys were all great entertainment, especially as they were all competing just for the pride of winning."
The first round was a voting round by the audience and each Danny Dyer got up on stage to show off their looks.
By the end of it, half of the contestants had been kicked off.
Joysgg said: "It was a bit brutal to be honest!"
"At this point, everyone felt like number two should be the winner."
"I even thought he was actually Danny Dyer when I first spotted him!"
The following rounds tested the men's impressions of Dyer in voice, walk and then lifetime experience.
Joysgg said: "The next few rounds were fun."
"They had some classic Dyer phrases in a hat and each contestant picked one to give their best impression of."
"They also had to mimic his strut and in both these rounds, contestant number two started to fall behind."
"He looked so much like Danny but clearly hadn't done the work on his impression."
Each round, another contestant was voted off by the crowd and when it got down to the final two, the decision was up to the judges.
Joysgg said: "Ultimately, when it came down to number two and three in the final round, the judges voted for number three."
"I feel like number two knew he hadn't quite managed to snag it, despite the strong start."
"As far as I could tell, the winner didn't walk away with any specific prize, just the pride of winning."
"It just ended up being a total Dyer love fest!"
