A strong earthquake struck Poso, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday evening, July 24, 2025. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the quake, which occurred at 8:06 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB), or 9:06 PM local time, had a magnitude of 5.7. The earthquake's epicenter was located on land in the Poso region, at a depth of 10 kilometers. This type of shallow earthquake was caused by active fault activity in the Poso Fault Zone. The BMKG also reported that as of 8:40 PM Western Indonesian Time, monitoring results indicated 11 aftershocks, with the largest magnitude measuring M5.5 and the smallest M2.4. The public was advised to remain calm.
