Türkiye: Iran, three European countries hold new nuclear talks in Istanbul
Storyline: A new round of talks on the nuclear issue between Iran and France, Britain and Germany was held in Istanbul, Türkiye on Friday. It is the first meeting between Iran and the three European countries after Iran and Israel achieved a ceasefire in June. The closed-door meeting was attended by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi. It is believed that this round of talks will focus on some sensitive issues, such as the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, the path to lifting sanctions against Iran, and the snapback mechanism against Iran possibly triggered by the European side. Iran and the three European countries have held six rounds of talks since September last year, when the two sides' delegations began dialogue on a number of issues, including Tehran's nuclear program and the removal of sanctions, on the sidelines of the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The latest round took place in Istanbul in mid-May. Iran signed a nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in July 2015 with six countries -- Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States. Under the deal, Tehran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Shotlist: Istanbul, Türkiye - July 25, 2025: 1. People passing by Iran's consulate in Istanbul 2.
