Dhaka, Bangladesh - July 24, 2025 The interim government of Bangladesh has signed an agreement with the United Nations Human Rights Commission to establish a temporary office in Dhaka for a period of three years. The move has sparked protests in the capital. Following Friday prayers at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, large crowds gathered to denounce what they called a "meaningless decision." Protesters from across Dhaka voiced strong opposition to the agreement, demanding its cancellation. Demonstrators accused the United States and its allies of attempting to interfere in Bangladesh’s internal affairs through the UN mechanism. Speakers at the rally also criticized the United Nations for what they called its failure to protect human rights in Palestine, Syria, and Kashmir.
