SICILY, ITALY - JULY 25: Italy’s Sicily Island has been fighting wildfire which broke out between the towns of Partinico and San Giuseppe Jato, near the city of Palermo on Friday (July 25).

The Italian Fire Department deployed multiple vehicles and crews who worked through the night to contain the flames.

At times, the fire approached residential neighborhoods, and some cultivated farmland was reported to have been affected.

The forest fire that broke out in the Grisi town, has affected an area extending to the town of Partinico.

Efforts are underway to combat the rapidly spreading blaze, according to officials.

Extreme heat of up to 44C (111F) in some places and severe storms are sweeping across Europe, triggering floods and raising fire alerts.
