Two members of Extinction Rebellion NYC disrupted operations at Meta’s offices in Moynihan Hall at Penn Station on the morning of July 25, launching a protest against the company’s role in climate destruction and authoritarian politics.

The activists spray-chalked Meta’s windows with messages like “Zuck Loves Trump,” “Meta Makes Kings,” and “Zuck Fcks Climate.” One poured water to symbolize AI’s environmental toll, chanting, “Dump Trump, Meta!” Both were arrested at the scene.

“Mark Zuckerberg and the class of CEO’s he belongs to know full well the impacts their businesses have on our planet,” said Greg Schwedock, one of the protesters. “Why else would he have built a bunker island in the middle of the ocean? They will pay the price of change today socially, or tomorrow existentially. We are hoping to force the first option, for life on Earth.”

The group accuses Meta of accelerating climate collapse through large-scale AI development and water-hungry data centers. They also denounce Zuckerberg’s alignment with political power, referencing his attendance at Trump’s 2025 inauguration and Meta’s rollback of fact-checking.

“Is Mark Zuckerberg, one of the richest people on the planet, really more afraid of Trump than of the collapse of the world his kids will inherit?” asked Extinction Rebellion spokesperson Devin Lilly. “When will he choose to stand for the future instead of his bottom line?”

Other activists condemned the broader tech industry for backing a system they say dismantles democracy and worsens inequality.

“There is no wealth to be preserved, no markets to expand, and no profits to be had on a planet that’s burning, drowning, and collapsing,” said spokesperson Miles Grant.

Extinction Rebellion NYC is calling for a boycott of tech firms that support fossil fuel use and authoritarian agendas.
