2. VARIOUS OF POPE LEO XIV ADDRESSING TO PEOPLE / CROWD LISTENING TO POPE VATICAN CITY - JULY 27, 2025: Pope Leo XIV voiced deep concern over the suffering of civilians in Gaza, citing hunger, violence, and continued deaths under Israeli attack during his speech in the Vatican on Sunday, July 27.

Speaking during his traditional Sunday prayer from the Vatican, he urged for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and full compliance with humanitarian law.

He also prayed for victims of violence in southern Syria and called for dialogue between Thailand and Cambodia amid rising tensions.

On Tuesday, the World Food Program warned that one-third of Gaza’s population had gone several days without eating due to the continued Israeli blockade.

Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing over 59,700 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
