More than 40 divers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and other countries took part in the annual event, held at the 16th-century Ottoman-era bridge. Built in 1566 by architect Mimar Hayruddin, a student of renowned Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, the bridge is considered the “soul” of Mostar. It was destroyed during the Bosnian War in 1993 after being shelled by Croatian forces, but locals kept the diving tradition alive by jumping from its remains. Reconstructed in 2004 with support from Türkiye and other international partners, the bridge has since regained its symbolic and cultural significance. The diving event, which also appears in Ottoman traveler Evliya Celebi’s 'Seyahatname', remains a cherished tradition in Mostar.
