Two residents climbed into a muddy pond to rescue a baby cow that was trapped in the sludge.

The neighbours were walking past the farm when they saw the calf stuck neck-deep, sinking in the quagmire in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Footage shows the Good Samaritans pulling the young animal by its ear until it was able to climb out.

The pair then quickly ran off as the angry mother cow charged toward them and her calf.

Friend Siska Anggriani said: ‘We suddenly heard its mother making sounds. We ran away in case she thought we hurt her child.'

The calf was rescued and safely reunited with its mother on July 22.
