This is the heartwarming moment thousands of maids gathered on a footbridge for their day off in Hong Kong.

The hoards of foreign domestic workers spent their Sunday having picnics with friends over Mong Kok Road in Kowloon.

Footage shows women sitting on mats on both sides of the walkway, chatting with their companions while having snacks they had prepared on April 25.

Some can be seen sleeping with only umbrellas covering them as pedestrians walk through the crowded area.

Other women also sell homemade goods and food from their homelands at the weekly gatherings.

Domestic helpers, mainly from the Philippines and Indonesia, gather on their legally mandated day off in public spaces such as footbridges, underpasses and parks. Chater Road and Statue Square are popular spots.

The Hong Kong Legislative Council Secretariat reported that there are at least 400,000 foreign domestic helpers legally employed in the city, with the majority being women from the Philippines, followed by Indonesia.
