CNE OFFICIALS ANNOUNCING PRELIMINARY RESULTSCARACAS, VENEZUELA - JULY 27: Venezuela’s ruling political movement, Chavismo, won the majority of mayoral seats in Sunday’s local elections, according to results released by the National Electoral Council (CNE). The results further underscore the continued dominance of President Nicolas Maduro’s allies in local governments. Chavismo won most of the mayoralties, although Maduro mentioned that 50 mayoralties went to the opposition. CNE President Elvis Amoroso said the July 27 vote took place without incident nationwide. The municipal vote came amid ongoing political polarization and economic challenges, with many Venezuelans viewing local governments as essential for accessing basic services and infrastructure support. In May this year, Venezuela also held general and regional elections, in which the ruling coalition led by President Maduro, the Great Patriotic Pole (GPP), emerged victorious securing 82.68% of the vote.
