Liulimiao Town in Huairou District in northeast China is one of the areas hardest hit by the disaster this time. Because the roads leading to the affected villages have all been made inaccessible by floods and silt, rescue vehicles had difficulty in getting to the affected areas. On Sunday, officers and soldiers with the Beijing People's Armed Police Corps reached the villages on foot to rescue the over 1,000 stranded people. "We assisted the personnel at the military training base in moving the elderly to safe rooms and helped the training base sort and arrange the various kinds of items in all rooms," said Lieutenant Colonel Wang Wenshu with the local People's Armed Police Force unit. Continuous heavy rainfall in northeastern Beijing's Miyun District has triggered floods, and Fengjiayu Village, located in deep mountains, was once out of contact. Therefore, on Sunday, a total of 17 soldiers with the local People's Armed Police Force unit walked 13 kilometers to reach the village to deliver badly needed supplies. "All roads have been made inaccessible, so we can only cross the mountains to reach here. This is the only passage," said Colonel Wang Feng with the local People's Armed Police Force unit. In less than two hours, the soldiers delivered over 80 boxes of daily necessities to the villagers, and successfully conveyed the disaster information to the outside world with field satellite equipment. In northwestern Beijing's Yanqing District, there were landslides and other hazards in multiple locations. A team of People's Armed Police Force troops, backed heavy machinery, arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations. Earlier Monday, authorities in Beijing issued a red flood alert, the highest level, as parts of the Chinese capital brace for more torrential rainfall, raising concerns over further flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas.
