4. VARIOUS OF AID WORKERS WALKING AND CHECKING VEHICLES ALONG CONVOY LINE SUWAYDA, SYRIA - JULY 28: Humanitarian aid convoys organized by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent reached Syria’s southern province of Suwayda on Monday, July 28, delivering medical supplies, food, and other essential relief items.
According to Syria’s state news agency SANA, the 27-truck convoy brought 200 tons of flour, 1,000 food packages, and 2,000 boxes containing various aid materials to the region.
The operation was carried out in coordination with the Syrian government, civil society organizations, and international humanitarian institutions, according to the report.
This marks the third aid convoy to access Suwayda since a ceasefire was declared by the Syrian presidency on July 19.
Over 3,000 people have so far been evacuated from Suwayda to the Daraa countryside in southern Syria following security unrest in the area.
On July 13, clashes broke out between Bedouin Arab tribes and armed Druze groups in Suwayda. Violence escalated, and Israeli airstrikes followed, targeting Syrian military positions and infrastructure, including in Damascus.
While Israel cited the “protection of Druze communities” as a pretext for its attacks, most Druze leaders in Syria have publicly rejected any foreign interference and reaffirmed their commitment to a unified Syrian state.
The new Syrian government has been working to reestablish order nationwide since the ouster of former regime leader Bashar al-Assad on Dec. 8, 2024.
