This is the shocking moment a group of adventurers was thrown into rapids when their raft overturned during a ride.

Dramatic footage captured by Den Den Ormido shows the river runners aboard a rubber boat speeding into the strong current at the Calinan Davao River in Davao, the Philippines.

The group was seen paddling into the murky waters when they struck a bump, causing four passengers to be tossed into the fast-moving flow on June 28.

Three others managed to stabilise themselves in the watercraft while their companions floated downstream, swept away by the river's drift.

Jamaica Tigbao, the group's guide, said: ‘They were okay and we eventually retrieved them from the water.'

Commercial rafting is a popular outdoor adventure activity where trained guides lead groups down rivers using inflatable rafts.

It has a very low casualty rate, with fewer than 1 death per 100,000 participants and only two to four injuries per 10,000, making it a generally safe adventure when guided by trained professionals.
