1. MOTION GRAPHICS SHOWING LOCATION OF INCIDENT ON MAP NEW YORK, US - JULY 29, 2025: Four people were killed, including a police officer, in a shooting Monday in New York City by a suspect armed with an assault rifle, said Mayor Eric Adams.

"Five innocent people shot tonight. We lost four souls to another senseless act of gun violence, including a member of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), Officer Islam," Adams said at a news conference.

Adams said two males and one female were dead along with the police officer, Didarul Islam, 36, who was married with two boys. His wife is pregnant with their third child.
"Another male is seriously injured, fighting for his life in critical condition because of the violent, despicable attack," he said.

The incident happened outside 345 Park Avenue -- which includes corporate offices for the National Football League (NFL) and the financial investment firm Blackstone -- near East 52nd Street in Midtown Manhattan.

- Motives ‘still under investigation'

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the suspect was identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas.
Tisch said surveillance video showed that the suspect was carrying an M4 rifle in his right hand.

Tamura had a documented mental health history, Tisch said.

"His motives are still under investigation, and we are working to understand why he targeted this particular location," she added.

Adams said the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Tisch said the suspect shot himself in the chest.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said on X that the agency is “on scene at the Manhattan crime scene.”

"The NYPD currently has the lead in this investigation. Our personnel are there to support their efforts. Motive is currently under investigation,” Bongino said.

- 'We must do more to stop gun violence in America'

Earlier, Adams said on X that "there is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now."

"Please take proper safety precautions if you are in the vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street," he added.

The NYPD also urged New Yorkers to avoid East 52 Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer thanked "our brave first responders" on the scene.

"I’m praying for everyone affected. We must do more to stop gun violence in America," he said on X.

US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said he is "deeply disturbed by the horrific shooting" in Midtown Manhattan.

"Praying hard for the brave NYPD officer impacted and all other victims of this tragedy. May God watch over our city during this challenging moment," Jeffries said on X.
