Storyline: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to present to the Israeli security cabinet a plan to annex parts of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Monday night. According to the report, Netanyahu told Israeli ministers that Israel has given Hamas a few days to agree to a ceasefire, or Israel will begin to gradually annex parts of the Strip in stages until Hamas surrenders. The report added that Netanyahu is pursuing this course of action to maintain the support of the far-right faction, which opposes both a ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid to Gaza. At a security meeting convened by Netanyahu on Monday, officials considered a full military occupation of the Gaza Strip, along with a potential siege of several urban centers believed to be Hamas strongholds. According to Israel's Channel 12 News, topics under discussion at the security cabinet meeting included the possibility of "conquering Gaza Strip" or "laying siege to cities with high Hamas presence." If implemented, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would expand operations into areas thought to be holding Israeli hostages, zones they have largely avoided targeting so far. The reported plans come amid heightened tensions, as senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya on Sunday accused Israel of obstructing ceasefire negotiations, calling the continuation of talks between the two sides "meaningless" under Israel's blockade, genocide and starvation policies.
