FATHER SALAH AL-GHARABLI SPEAKING TO CAMERA (Arabic)DEIR AL-BALAH, GAZA, PALESTINE - JULY 29: A one-year-old Palestinian baby girl named Mecca al-Gharabli died of malnutrition in the central Gaza Strip, health authorities reported on Tuesday, July 29. Her fragile body was brought to the morgue at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah for burial preparations. The child's father, Salah al-Gharabli, said Mecca had been suffering from severe weight loss and could not receive proper treatment or nutrition due to the ongoing blockade and attacks in Gaza. Hospitals across the Gaza Strip continue to struggle with critical shortages of food, medicine, and medical supplies, leaving many vulnerable children without adequate care. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 147 people, including 88 children, have died of starvation since Israel launched its relentless offensive in October 2023. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October. The unrelenting bombardment has devastated the enclave and triggered a deepening hunger crisis. On Monday, Israeli rights groups B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, citing the systematic destruction of Palestinian society and the deliberate dismantling of its healthcare system. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
