A video posted by X user aDNA-MENA shows police officers physically carrying a wounded man and laying him on the sidewalk to give medical aid during an active shooter situation in New York City. The user reported that the man had been shot. The footage was recorded at the corner of East 51st Street and Lexington Avenue.

The shooting occurred on July 28, 2025, shortly before 6:30 p.m., inside a building located at 345 Park Avenue and 52nd Street. Authorities confirmed that four people were killed, including an off-duty NYPD officer who was working security.

A fifth person was critically wounded.

The shooter was identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Las Vegas. He was wearing body armor and armed with a high-powered M4 rifle. Tamura drove to the location, double-parked his BMW, and entered the building alone before opening fire.

He shot the off-duty NYPD officer in the lobby, then fired on a security guard near the elevators. After making his way to the 33rd floor, Tamura shot another individual before dying from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Inside his vehicle, police discovered a loaded revolver, ammunition, a rifle case, a backpack, and prescription medication. Tamura had a concealed carry permit issued in Nevada.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that Tamura drove across the country and is believed to have acted alone.

Witness Jessica Chen said she heard rapid gunfire and barricaded herself in a conference room. “I texted my parents, ‘I love them,’” she said.

The FBI responded to the scene, and Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed she was briefed on the incident.

KPMG, which has offices in the building, issued a statement expressing sympathy for the victims and thanking law enforcement and security teams.
