Muslim-style toilet signs have woman in hijab and man in songkok
A tourist was stunned to see unique toilet signs featuring a woman in a hijab.
Footage shows two signages depicting a silhouette of the Muslim woman in the religious headscarf and a man wearing a songkok, a traditional Islamic hat, to identify toilets.
The religious-themed symbols were spotted on July 26, giving visitors a glimpse of the area's rich heritage through a simple but meaningful design in Narathiwat, southern Thailand.
Narathiwat is a Muslim-majority province located near the border with Malaysia, with at least 90 per cent of its residents being ethnic Malay Muslims. The region reflects strong cultural ties to its neighbour.
Historically, Narathiwat and the surrounding provinces were part of the Malay Sultanate before British colonial boundary decisions handed the territory to Thailand. Despite political borders, cultural influences remain deeply intertwined.
