On the day of Devmuni Kumar's wedding, serious flooding affected the local area in India's Bhagalpur making travel extremely hard.

Determined to get married, Kumar travelled 35 kilometres by boat to the house of his fiancé, Ramchandra Chaudhary.

The groom's father explained that the wedding date had been set in stone for a month and nothing was going to stop his son from getting married.

Kumar said: "We crossed the Ganga river which is why it took more time. There was no band or any pomp and show during this time. My wish remained unfulfilled. There was a pang in my heart. The wedding was to be done with pomp and show but everything was ruined due to the flood. All the things received at in-laws house like bed, pillow, mattress, chair-table, Godrej etc. were brought to their home by boat."

On 28 July Monday Bhagalpur Bakarpur Panchayat is badly affected by the flood waters of the Ganga river. In such a situation, Devmuni Kumar of this village had to ride a boat to cover a distance of 35 kilometers after dressing up as a groom.

The boy's father Ramdev Mandal said that the wedding date was fixed for a month. Meanwhile, there was a huge flood in the Ganges river. The village was also surrounded by flood water from all sides.When there was no way to leave the village, the wedding procession went by boat to the house of Ramchandra Chaudhary, a resident of Katakosh village in Manihari block of Katihar. After the wedding, the procession returned with the bride by boat on Tuesday.

The groom Devmuni Kumar said that due to flooding in the Ganga river, it is not possible to reach the girl's house by road. So, they travelled some distance by Scorpio and then reached the banks of the Ganga on foot. Then the baraatis boarded a boat and reached the girl's house.

Due to heavy rains in Bihar and Nepal, the rivers of the state are in spate. Ganga and Kosi rivers are flowing above the danger mark at some places. Flood water has entered the low lying areas of many districts.
