ISMAIL MAZI, COUSIN OF ADIL FAWZI, SPEAKING (Arabic) TO CAMERA KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - JULY 31: A 27-year-old Palestinian man has died of malnutrition in southern Gaza as Israel’s prolonged blockade and military offensive continue to cripple access to food and medical supplies, local sources reported Thursday, July 31. Adil Fawzi Mazi, a resident of Rafah, succumbed to starvation after his weight dropped drastically from 50 kilograms to just 15 kilograms, according to his relative Ismail Mazi. His body was taken to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Medical officials at the Nasser Medical Complex confirmed Mazi’s death, attributing it to severe malnutrition and famine-like conditions in the besieged enclave. Israel has maintained a strict blockade on Gaza for 18 years, and since March 2, it has completely shut down all crossings, preventing aid convoys from entering despite widespread international appeals. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 154 people, including 89 children, have died of starvation since October 2023 due to Israel’s restrictions on humanitarian aid. Since launching its military offensive on October 7, 2023, Israel has killed over 60,100 Palestinians, most of them women and children, while rejecting repeated calls for a ceasefire. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its military campaign, which has displaced nearly 2 million people and left Gaza in ruins.
