Rivers overflow flooding roads amid storm in China
Rivers overflowed due to heavy rainfall and caused roads to flood amid a storm in China.
Footage shows the Huangpu River bursting its banks, leading to severe flash floods in Shanghai on July 30.
The water level in the river reached 15 ft (4.55m).
The Suzhou River also spilled over following heavy downpours as Typhoon Co-May battered the region.
Residents were reassured as the Shanghai Water Affairs and Ocean Bureau confirmed the province's flood control embankments are strong and well-equipped.
The bureau said: 'The province's flood control embankments include first-class flood control walls, platform-type hydrophilic platforms, and second-level flood control walls.
'The secondary flood control wall located behind the hydrophilic platform is the key barrier that ensures flood control safety.'
Typhoon Comay made landfall in Zhejiang province on Wednesday morning, bringing maximum sustained winds of 82.8 km/h. It made a second landfall in the coastal area of Fengxian, Shanghai, in the afternoon.
In response, more than 283,000 residents in the region's waterfront were evacuated, and over 1,900 emergency settlement points were set up across the city. Construction works were also suspended at 4,628 sites.
Shanghai Airport Group reported that around 30 per cent of flights were expected to be affected, with approximately 640 cancellations, including 410 at Pudong International Airport and 230 at Hongqiao International Airport.
