Five aid-seeking Palestinians killed along Israeli-targeted Netzarim aid corridor in Gaza
GAZA, PALESTINE - JULY 31, 2025: Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians seeking aid at a distribution point near the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza on Thursday, July 31, killing five and injuring eight others, said a medical source. Six more people were killed and more than 45 injured by Israeli fire while waiting for aid at another distribution point in northern Rafah in southern Gaza, medics said. According to the latest figures released by the Health Ministry, at least 1,239 people have been killed and over 8,152 injured by Israeli army fire while seeking aid in Gaza since May 27. Amid the ongoing Israeli blockade and lack of basic necessities, Palestinians are forced to risk their lives in search of aid supplies along the Netzarim Corridor in the central Gaza Strip. Thousands of Palestinians grappling with hunger become targets of Israeli snipers and armed drones while passing through these corridors despite the Israeli army's portrayal of the area as a “safe humanitarian corridor.” Some manage to return with a small amount of food aid, while others come back empty-handed—or cannot return at all. These journeys, filled with fear, hunger, and death, reveal the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza for 18 years and, since March 2, has shut down all crossings, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid and worsening conditions for the territory’s 2.4 million population. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 147 people, including 88 children, have died of starvation since Israel launched its relentless offensive in October 2023. In total, more than 60,200 Palestinians, most of them women and children, were killed. On Monday, Israeli rights groups B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, citing the systematic destruction of Palestinian society and the deliberate dismantling of the territory’s healthcare system. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Reporting by Fadel A. A. Almaghari / Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
