JOPPATOWNE, Md. — Swift water rescue teams pulled two people from floodwaters Tuesday afternoon as heavy rain triggered multiple water rescues throughout the Joppatowne area, officials said.

The Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and the Harford County Department of Emergency Services reported rescuing two people from high water at Pulaski Highway and Baltimore County at 1:43 p.m. Additional calls came in minutes apart for flooded vehicles along Joppa Farm Road, where several cars were checked but found unoccupied.

By early evening, fire officials had responded to multiple incidents across the area, including at Philadelphia Road and Edgewood Road and Philadelphia Road and Calvary Road. In each case, drivers either escaped safely or were helped out by first responders.

Authorities urged residents to avoid flooded roads and remember the warning: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
