Indonesia: Demo for Palestin in Jakarta, Indonesia
Jakarta, Indonesia - August 03, 2025 Thousands of Indonesians gathered at Jakarta’s National Monument (Monas) on Sunday in a large demonstration of solidarity with Gaza, as the besieged territory faces worsening humanitarian conditions marked by extreme hunger and shortages of basic supplies. The rally, attended by Indonesia’s Minister of Culture Fadlizon and Foreign Minister Sugiono, underscored the government’s continued support for the Palestinian cause. “Gaza is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history,” Sugiono told the crowd. “Indonesia cannot remain silent while civilians suffer. We reaffirm our commitment to assist Gaza and to continue advocating for the independence of Palestine.” Fadlizon emphasized the cultural and moral ties that bind Indonesians to the Palestinian struggle, saying the demonstration reflects Indonesia’s enduring commitment to justice, human dignity, and freedom from oppression. Participants waved Palestinian flags, carried banners reading “End the Siege” and “Free Palestine,” and joined in collective prayers for Gaza. Civil society groups highlighted that beyond symbolic gestures, Indonesia is committed to delivering humanitarian aid and pressing the international community for action. The demonstration concluded peacefully, with organizers calling on world leaders to uphold the principles of human rights and self-determination for the Palestinian people. Statements from Participants (SOT): Ivan – Solidarity Group for Palestine 00:23 – 00:44 “We will continue to call for an end to what we see as genocide carried out by Israel. Most importantly, the Muslim community must remain united. We are here to raise awareness and educate our people, encouraging them to understand the reality of the ongoing situation in Palestine.” 00:44 – 01:10 “Western media often labels Hamas as a terrorist organization, but from our perspective as Muslims, Hamas represents freedom fighters striving for the establishment of Palestine as a sovereign nation under Islamic principles. To us, they are real-world heroes—unlike fictional characters such as Superman, Batman, or Spiderman—because these fighters truly exist on the ground.” Yuniani – Demonstration Participant 03:09 – 03:28 “This demonstration is intended to awaken the conscience of all Muslim nations and religious leaders, urging them to help Palestine and not turn a blind eye to what we see as genocide—simply out of fear of American pressure. Allahu Akbar!”
