ODESA, UKRAINE — AUG. 4 — RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “STATE EMERGENCY SERVICE OF UKRAINE” HANDOUT —EDITORIAL USE ONLY — Russian drone strikes targeted Ukraine’s Odesa region overnight on Monday, August 4, causing large-scale fires and material damage, according to local officials.

The attack set off several major blazes, which were quickly extinguished by firefighters and volunteers working together. The most severe damage occurred at the radio market area, where dozens of pavilions containing electronics and household appliances were destroyed.

A separate fire broke out at an unused dormitory and was also brought under control.
In Odesa district, a private residence was damaged. The homeowner managed to put out the flames in his yard unaided.

Authorities reported no casualties or injuries as a result of the overnight assault.

According to its memorandum for the settlement of the conflict, Moscow has demanded a ban on Kyiv joining military alliances and withdrawal of Ukraine's troops from Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, the regions it annexed after a referendum in September 2022, among others.

Ukraine has called the terms an "ultimatum" and has called for a ceasefire as a prerequisite for meaningful talks.

Russia started its "special military operation" on Feb. 24, 2022 and claimed that it is aimed at protecting people in the eastern region of Ukraine.

Since then, millions have been displaced, thousands have lost their homes, and hundreds of medical and educational institutions have been destroyed.
