Incredibly rare footage captured the moment a solo orca manages to take down a juvenile great white shark off the coast of South Africa's Mossel Bay.

According to the filmer, the orca in the video named Starboard has a reputation for coordinated attacks on sharks in the area with his hunting partner named Port.

The footage, filmed in 2023, shows the shark thrashing around at the surface before being dragged along by Starboard.

The orca re-emerges moments later, carrying the shark's liver, before swimming calmly past a nearby ecotourism boat.

This extraordinary footage captures an unprecedented marine event: Starboard, the infamous orca with the collapsed dorsal fin, hunting and killing a juvenile great white shark — alone. Scientists believe this type of behaviour signals a shift in apex predator dynamics and may have serious implications for shark populations in the region. With overfishing, climate pressure, and now targeted orca predation, white sharks are facing mounting threats — even in so-called Marine Protected Areas.
