SHOTLIST: GAZA , PALESTINE (AUG. 4, 2025) (ANADOLU – ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF GAZANS VISITING EXHIBITION CALLED "BREATHE AND DRAW" / DRAWINGS ON ROPES 2. (SOUNDBITE) (English) INSTRUCTOR AT CHILD WELFARE CENTER SAYING: "So we're having an exhibition of paintings for a lot of young girls and some of the boys here. This exhibition talks about the arts of the Palestinian community during war and before the war, and how we're feeling during these difficult times. You you're going to see a lot of stages through this art, a lot of stages that we live as a Palestinian community, as girls also, and what does it mean for us? How this war is impacting the people here? And, and of course, how we live through the hope to gain more and more prosperity in the future. And we try to build this future back to have a prosperous Palestinian community again after this war. This is, let's say, a tool for breathing for a psychological breathing. Let's say we don't have a lot of tools now, we used to have a lot of activities, a lot of settings. And, we have other tools that does not present at this time. So this is a tool, a good tool for teenagers to breathe, to speak about their inner feelings and to speak, of course, about what their aspirations are in the future. So this is a good tool for them." 3. VARIOUS OF PAINTINGS ON DISPLAY AT CHILD WELFARE CENTER 4. VARIOUS OF PALESTINIAN CHILDREN DRAWING WITH CRAYONS TO EXPRESS EMOTIONS 5. (SOUNDBITE) (Turkish - Arabic) PALESTINIAN GIRL SARE, SAYING: "Hello friends. I'm Sare from northern Gaza. My drawings reflect pain. War is especially painful for women. This is my drawing. This woman went to get aid. I truly hope this war ends. We are so tired." "This drawing expresses the suffering we live in Gaza. It especially expresses the suffering of women in Gaza, as her husband is a martyr, her son is a martyr, and there’s nothing left in life. And with the famine as well... My cousin, may God have mercy on him, was martyred right in front of the school gate where all the displaced were, and also my other cousin was martyred, and my uncle too — may God accept them. What is this, oh Lord? How will we continue? Food is the most important thing in our lives, more important than anything, because life can't go on without food. And a woman can’t bear for her child to keep crying from hunger, so she went to get aid, just like the young men, so she can feed her children today." 9. VARIOUS OF PAINTINGS DEPICTING SUFFERING AND TRAUMA IN GAZA 10. VARIOUS OF PALESTINIAN CHILDREN DRAWING WITH CRAYONS TO EXPRESS EMOTIONS 11. VARIOUS OF PAINTINGS REFLECTING PAIN AND SUFFERING IN GAZA 12. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PALESTINIAN GIRL DESCRIBING HER PAINTING AND SAYING: "She was likely in rags, and this one, this time, she went — pulled a girl from under the rubble, pulled a girl from under the rubble, she went — hit, hit — went to fly, the shrapnel hit her, shrapnel on the side — and this shrapnel that spread to her — it hit her back — I saw it, I saw it, I remember just like you — and then a piece — I saw, I saw it came from the phone — and a piece — I swear it looked like she was drawing her death... — her head on the pavement, behind her, and she lay, lay down like that, with a flower — I swear she was drawing her death — I wanted to become a doctor — so many times, more than ten times, I went from Deir al-Balah to Zawaida to Khan Younis — and we fled from there — and all our life is displacement, all our life is displacement... — damn it." 13. VARIOUS OF PALESTINIAN CHILDREN DRAWING WITH CRAYONS TO EXPRESS EMOTIONS 14. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) STUDENT AT FACULTY OF FINE ARTS AT AL-AQSA UNIVERSITY SAYING: "This is not just a painting — for me, it’s a real scene. Every woman among us lives it, feels it. It shows how the war has affected us — mentally and physically. I suffer a lot, especially during a certain time of the month, like any other girl — the breakdown we reach. By the way, the title of the painting is 'At the Peak of Collapse' — because it expresses how difficult the phase we're living through is. There’s always something lacking for us. Our personal needs are not available. No one listens to us, no one feels us, and we don’t even have the chance to express what we feel. In the middle of all this ash we live in, and the smell of death around us, there's no chance to say: we are in pain. So even the walls around us press on us. Even the water in the bathroom carries the burden. I have been displaced 15 times since the war started. I’ve been everywhere across Gaza — literally. I’ve lived in tents for many months. I suffered in so many ways — in hygiene, in dignity, in pain. Also, my cousin was martyred — may God have mercy on him. He was my age. We’ve suffered a lot — from hunger, exhaustion, humiliation. We were dragged through everything, honestly... I am 20 years old, and I study at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Al-Aqsa University. 15. PALESTINIAN CHILDREN DRAWING (TWO SHOTS)GAZA , PALESTINE - AUG. 4: Amid the rubble of a bombed welfare center in Gaza, children gathered for an art workshop, using crayons and paper to express the suffering, hunger, exhaustion, and humiliation they endure under relentless war. The art workshop titled “Breathe and Draw” was organized by the Child Welfare Center on Monday, Aug. 4, in front of its war-damaged building, where displaced civilians are currently sheltering. The event included an open-air exhibition of paintings and photographs created by children who shared their emotions through drawings. “This is my drawing. It shows a woman who went to get aid because her children were starving. We’re so tired. This war must end," said Sare, a girl from northern Gaza. Most of the drawings at the workshop reflect the hardships endured by Gazans since the onset of Israel’s devastating military campaign in October 2023. A fine arts student from Al-Aqsa University stood by her artwork 'At the Peak of Collapse', describing it as a depiction of a woman crouched on the ground, overwhelmed by suffering. "This is not just a painting — for me, it’s a real scene. Every woman among us lives it, feels it. It shows how the war has affected us — mentally and physically." Stressing the difficult times they have been living through, she said: "Our personal needs are not available. No one listens to us, no one feels us, and we don’t even have the chance to express what we feel." She pointed out the hardships they had endured—hunger, death, and displacement. “But still, we hold on to art and hope,” she added. The art workshop also offered a rare moment of psychological relief amid the ongoing devastation. One of the organizers said the exhibition is "a good tool for teenagers to breathe, to speak about their inner feelings and to speak about their aspirations in the future." She expressed their desire to rebuild a prosperous Palestinian community after the war. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 60,800 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Reporting by Anas Zeyad Fteha / Writing by Mehmet Taha Mazi
