VARIOUS OF CIVILIANS CARRYING AID PACKAGES ON THEIR BACKS AND WALKING BACK TO THEIR SHELTERS UNDER SUNGAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - AUG. 4: Hundreds of Palestinians gathered at the Zikim crossing on Monday, Aug. 4, seeking limited food aid amid worsening shortages in Gaza Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on Palestinians gathering near the Zikim crossing to receive food aid. According to witnesses, multiple Palestinians were injured and were hurried to hospitals by nearby civilians. Israel has continued to impose a systematic starvation policy on approximately 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza by sealing off all crossings to aid shipments, which have been stranded at the border since March 2. The blockade has pushed the enclave into famine. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing nearly 61,000 Palestinians, almost half of them women and children. The military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
