The five-day naval drills, which began on Aug. 1, included anti-submarine and artillery maneuvers. During the rescue scenario, a simulated disabled submarine was located on the seabed, prompting coordinated operations by both navies.
The Chinese Navy deployed its LR-7 submersible from the rescue vessel Shihu to dock with the Russian submarine Volkhov, while the Russian rescue ship Igor Belousov carried out a similar docking operation with a Chinese submarine.
