Tree obliterated by lightning strike as woman walks by with umbrella
This is the terrifying moment a tree was obliterated by a lightning strike just as a woman walked by with an umbrella.
Shocking CCTV footage shows the local passing by when the thunderbolt struck the tree, causing it to topple over amid heavy rainfall in Hunan, China.
A bright flash briefly illuminated the area, followed by a loud blast, on July 20.
The tree can be seen exploding into hundreds of pieces as it crashes to the ground.
No one was reportedly injured in the incident.
Experts warn against seeking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, as lightning can strike the tree and electrocute anyone nearby.
China frequently experiences heavy rainfall and storms, especially during the summer monsoon season, with southern and central regions often hit by flash floods and severe downpours.
