Swedish drug trafficking suspect wanted by Interpol arrested in luxury Thai villa
A Swedish drug trafficking suspect wanted by Interpol was arrested in a luxury pool villa in Thailand.
The fugitive, identified only as 'Toby', was detained by Immigration Division 3 officers at the lavish residence in Chonburi on Monday.
Police raided the villa after continuous investigations and surveillance that led them to the suspect's whereabouts.
Toby was reportedly wanted by the Swedish Police Authority for alleged online drug trafficking in a Scandinavian network. He had allegedly fled to Thailand to avoid arrest.
Police Major General Chairit Anurit, commander of Immigration Division 3, said: ‘The suspect's behaviour makes him a threat to society.
‘The Swedish authorities want him back to face punishment for drug offences.
‘The suspect was a global moderator for a darknet platform called 'Archetyp', which allowed the trading of illegal drugs in private chat rooms in Scandinavian and other European regions.'
He added that the operation was completed in line with the Thai government's policy to eradicate transnational crimes.
