Tempered glass door shatters as office worker enters building
This is the dramatic moment a tempered glass door shattered as an office worker walked into the building.
Kanyarat, 44, pushed the fragile entrance as she was clocking in for her shift at her workplace in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 29.
She grabbed the metal handle and tried to swing the glass door open - only for it to explode in a burst of sharp fragments.
Shocking CCTV footage shows the brittle glass slab collapsing into thousands of small pieces after Kanyarat applied slight pressure on it.
The stunned employee was left holding the metal handle as staff raced over, gingerly stepping on tiny shards of tempered glass, to help her.
Kanyarat was rushed to the Bumrungrad International Hospital for a torn thumb tendon after the glass almost lopped off her thumb. The treatment reportedly cost an eye-watering 240,000 baht (around 5,580 GBP), which was covered by her insurance.
She has since been discharged but still needs to pay for wound cleaning and physical therapy.
The building owner has agreed to pay her compensation.
Kanyarat said: 'Of all the dangers in the city, I didn't expect a door to attack me. I'm very careful every time I open a door now.'
Tempered glass can sometimes explode due to internal stresses caused by improper installation or imperfections such as nickel sulfide inclusions that expand in the glass over time. Sudden impacts, temperature changes, or edge damage can also trigger spontaneous shattering.
