IZMIR, TÜRKİYE - AUGUST 3: Stunning drone footage captured hundreds of flamingos in Gediz Delta of Türkiye which feed throughout the day, creating scenic view.

Located at the mouth of the Gediz River within one of the Eastern Mediterranean's largest deltas, this approximately one-and-a-half-acre island serves as a seasonal habitat for a diverse array of water birds. It is also one of Türkiye's two primary breeding grounds for flamingos.

Hosting flamingos as they feed, rest, and court each other during their annual breeding season after a long mass flight, beautiful scenes take hold in the Gediz Delta.

The delta, which has the protection status of Ramsar Area, Wildlife Protection Area and Natural Protected Area and which has been applied to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hosts approximately 300 bird species.

Gediz Delta was formed by alluvium, carried by Gediz River with its exceeding 40.000 hectare and draws attention for its biodiversity and integration with the city.

Algae and brine shrimp are carotenoid-rich nutrients for flamingos that they are absorbed by feathers and resulted in the characteristic pink color.
