This is the shocking moment onlookers scattered as a landslide crashed down a mountainside in northern India.

The rockslide occurred at the site of a hydropower project operated by Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) near Helang in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Saturday, August 2.

Dramatic footage shows distressed workers fleeing as large chunks of debris tumble down the slope, with thick clouds of dust engulfing the area.

District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed that no fatalities were reported, though at least 12 labourers were injured.

Four of the injured are receiving care at THDC Hospital, while two others with more serious conditions were taken to Swami Vivekananda Hospital in Pipalkoti. Another worker is being treated locally for fractures, and one has been transferred to the Medical College in Srinagar due to the extent of their injuries.

Approximately 300 workers were present at the site during the incident. All operations at the project have been temporarily halted.

Tiwari said: 'THDC has been asked to resume work at the site only after ensuring the safety of those at work.'

Authorities are monitoring the site and carrying out assessments to determine appropriate follow-up measures.
