Phoenix, United States - August 06, 2025 08/06/2025 03:00 am GMT-0700 AVONDALE, Ariz. – Crews from the cities of Avondale, Phoenix, El Mirage, and Goodyear, as well as Arizona Fire Medical Authority resources, responded to reports of a brush fire in the Agua Fria River bottom near Indian School Road and El Mirage Road around 3:00 a.m. Crews arrived to find an approximately 1-acre-wide brush fire burning at the center of the riverbed. Crews utilized brush trucks to traverse the extremely rugged terrain, while additional resources accessed the blaze on foot. With no immediate water supply, crews relied on fire department water tenders to supply the front-line crews. The fire grew to approximately 2 acres, burning through trees, dense brush, and a nearby homeless encampment. Forward progress and fire containment were achieved around 5:00 a.m. No injuries have been reported at this time. Firefighters were expected to remain on scene throughout the morning and into the day while hot spots were extinguished. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
