Terrifying moment suspension bridge snaps in China leaving 5 dead and dozens more injured

On August 6 at 6:18 p.m., a suspension bridge cable in the Xiata Scenic Area of Zhaosu County, Ili Prefecture, Xinjiang, suddenly snapped, causing the bridge deck to tilt and sending tourists sliding into the water below.

According to statistics, 29 people fell from the bridge. Sadly, 5 were confirmed dead, 22 sustained minor injuries, and 2 were seriously injured. All injured individuals were promptly taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and treatment, and none are currently in life-threatening condition.

Following the incident, authorities in Ili Prefecture and Zhaosu County immediately activated emergency response protocols, focusing on treating the injured and calming other visitors at the scene.

To ensure tourist safety, the Xiata Scenic Area has been closed for a full safety inspection and hazard assessment.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
