Rescuers from south China's Guangdong and Guangxi have responded to a number of emergencies during recent heavy rainstorms that battered the regions. In Guangdong's Huidong County, patrolling personnel accurately and timely identified imminent landslide risk in a hillside construction site on Monday morning. The local government quickly took emergency measures, deploying firefighters and rescuers to evacuate all residents and cordoned off the area before a landslide occurred. "They patrolled here and told us the rain was too heavy, persuading us to immediately get out of this dangerous low ground," said Liu Wenzhong, a worker at the construction site. Thanks to swift emergency response actions, no people were harmed in the accident. Persistent rainfall also pushed river levels up across Guangdong's city of Qingyuan, leaving some areas badly flooded. On Wednesday, rising floodwaters trapped a man on the far bank of a local reservoir. Firefighters shot a rope across the torrent, sent one rescuer with an extra lifejacket to reach the trapped person, and brought him back to safety. In Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region's Fangchenggang City, the coast guard responded to two incidents of people stranded on coastal waters between Tuesday night to the early hours of Wednesday. In one incident, a sudden rainstorm bringing gale and 1.8-meter waves trapped 80 people on an island, who were safely brought back by coast guard vessels. The other incident saw 11 people gone clamming on a raft stranded on a beach during a sudden low tide and completely lost their direction. The coast guard swiftly reached the stranded people and brought them to safety. SHOTLIST: Huidong County, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, south China - Aug 4, 2025 1.
