On August 5, in Daying County, Suining, Sichuan Province, large amounts of white foam were seen continuously spraying out of a manhole on a main road, almost completely covering one side of the street.

According to staff from the Daying County Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, an initial investigation suggested that the incident may have been caused by the summer peak in water usage. The older sewage system, with its limited capacity, became overwhelmed, leading to a buildup and release of foam due to detergent residue in the wastewater.

A representative from the local water utility company said it has been largely ruled out that the foam contained any toxic or harmful substances. The likely cause was vigorous water flow in the sewage pipes stirring up detergent-based foam.

The Housing Bureau has stated that measures are now being taken to divert wastewater from the affected section of the sewer network, and staff have been assigned to monitor the situation.

大英县水务公司工作人员称，已经基本排除是有毒有害物质，可能是污水管流量较大，震动搅动产生的洗涤泡沫。

住建局表示已采取措施，准备将事发管网的污水进行分流，并派人值班查看后续情况。
