A train derailed in southern Thailand, leaving nine passengers injured.

The vehicle was travelling from Padang Besar, Malaysia, to Bangkok when it crashed near Prachuap Khiri Khan province at around 5am this morning.

Two air-conditioned sleeper carriages from special express trains Nos 38 and 46 veered off the tracks at a curve on the double-track railway in Kui Buri.

Footage from the scene shows the derailed train resting against a damaged ramp walkway.

Among the injured were a monk and eight women, all of whom sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Paramedics arrived to provide medical aid and evacuate passengers. Those unharmed were transferred to buses bound for Bangkok.

Authorities have deployed heavy machinery, including cranes and specialised recovery vehicles, to carefully lift and remove the derailed carriages.

Meanwhile, train services continue to run normally in both directions by using alternate tracks around the accident site.

Railway officials are today investigatin the cause of the train crash.
