A Thai driver was arrested for allegedly smuggling illegal Chinese migrants into Bangkok.

Kosin Chaengphai, 43, was stopped by police on Highway No 32 in Ang Thong while reportedly trafficking an undocumented Chinese worker.

Highway Police said they intercepted Kosin's grey Mitsubishi sedan on Thursday evening, following a tip-off about his illicit activities.

Dashcam footage shows the dramatic chase as law enforcers chased the suspect's car along the road. Kosin tried to accelerate but soon surrendered to the police.

Officers detained him and found a 29-year-old Chinese national in his vehicle. The man, who had tried to hide himself by reclining the seat, did not have a passport or any travel documents.

Kosin allegedly confessed he was paid 3,000 baht per person to transport Chinese immigrants into Bangkok.

A police spokesman said: 'Both suspects were arrested and taken into custody for questioning. Police will launch a wider investigation ‌into this network.'
