Every August 9th, the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is celebrated, proclaimed by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. Indigenous peoples comprise more than 5,000 distinct groups in some 90 countries; however, they are the most disadvantaged and vulnerable populations in terms of human rights.
