A local hero surfer, Lukas Skinner pulls of a remarkable feat by winning for the second year running the most prestigious surfing event in the UK. As one of the world’s most hotly tipped surfers, Lukas started surfing at just 3 years old, following in the footsteps of his dad, Ben Skinner. Ben is a legendary International Long board surfing champion.
2024 continued to be a ground-breaking year for Lukas, making history at the Boardmasters Open as the first British Men’s winner since 2002, a monumental feat alongside winning the Junior title – taking home a DOUBLE podium win! Lukas also went on to take the podium top-spot in the Rip Curl GromSearch world title in Bali later that year – showcasing his success on a global scale. As part of the GB Surfing Progression Squad for future Olympians, (along with surf ambassador Alys Barton and a select team) the future looks bright as they strive to be world champs!. Thousands of supporters lined the watersedge as Lukas comfortably scored the highest number of points in the three man Final. The surf was excellent, which is not always the case for the Boardmasters August event. Lukas was carried by the crowd back to the podium for the presentation.
