China's first LEGO Group-certified fan festival opened on Saturday in Shanghai, with more than 180 Lego builders showcasing their impressive creative works. With more than 500 Lego works on display this year, the event for Adult Fans of Lego (AFOL) was held at China's first Lego-themed park LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort. Multiple large-scale models of Transformers and Gundams, built with more than 10,000 Lego bricks, surprised Lego fans at the show. "I spent a month to design it, and a year to build it. The LEGO Group has invited me to show my works at their museum," said a fan designer. One fan used the plastic bricks to recreate classic portraits, such as those of musicians Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. "There are more than 20,000 Lego bricks on the portrait. The most important thing is patience, as I need to place the bricks one by one," said the creator, Hou Bo. A massive LEGO railway station model also drew visitors' eyes, with the builder standing nearby to control the trains in real time. "I use a smartphone to connect to Lego's smart bricks and control the trains' movement, stops, and speed," said the model's designer. For many interested visitors, the creativity of the fan designs was eye-opening. "I'm surprised. Many kinds of things that I have never thought of before can be made with Lego bricks and displayed here," said a visitor. During the two-day event, visitors can get hands-on with Lego building, using the bricks to create whatever they can imagine through fun challenge games. "We want the visitors at the show to see, 'Wow, we can build up so many amazing things with Lego bricks,'" said Jiang Shenghui, founder of the event. The video shows: Shanghai, China - Aug 9, 2025 1.
