Balıkesir, Türkiye - August 10, 2025 A powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck western Turkey’s Balıkesir province on Sunday evening, according to the country’s AFAD disaster management authority. The quake occurred at around 7:53 p.m. local time near the city of Istanbul. Local media reported that at least 10 buildings collapsed in Sındırgı district. Communication with surrounding villages has been severely hampered due to GSM network failures, preventing timely updates.
