US, Phoenix: Phoenix Fatal L-202 Wrong Way Crash Caught On Camera With Sound On Tape

Phoenix, United States - August 11, 2025 08/11/2025 12:03 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers responded to reports of a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Red Mountain Loop 202 near 52nd Street just after midnight. The Phoenix Police Department helicopter was in the area and arrived overhead to assist in locating the reported wrong-way driver. The helicopter arrived and located two vehicles that had collided head-on at a high rate of speed near the end of the westbound L-202 Priest Drive on-ramp. One of the vehicles rolled onto its roof from the force of the impact. Troopers arrived and located one male trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Tempe and Phoenix firefighters arrived on the scene and began tending to the victims. The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced deceased by firefighters. The male victim was transported in reportedly serious condition to a local area hospital. DPS closed the westbound Red Mountain L-202 at Scottsdale Road as they investigated the crash.
