China: Professional teams, large equipment devoted to search, rescue operations in flood-hit Gansu
Professional rescue teams are using large equipment to conduct comprehensive search and rescue operations in the flood-hit Yuzhong County of northwest China's Gansu Province. Since Thursday, continuous heavy rainfall has triggered severe flash floods and mudslides across Yuzhong County and surrounding areas in Lanzhou, the provincial capital of Gansu, causing widespread damage of property and loss of life. According to the office of the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters, as of Saturday night, the disaster had caused 15 deaths, and left 28 people missing and 15 people injured, with 9,828 people urgently evacuated and resettled. Maliantan Village in Mapo Township has been among the hardest-hit areas. Since Sunday, a specialized rescue team from China Anneng Construction Group has been deployed there to conduct full-scale search and rescue operations. Rescuers are using drones to carry out comprehensive aerial surveys, comparing the imagery of Maliantan Village and nearby Jiuzhuanggou Village before and after the disaster, and using the data to pinpoint the likely locations of missing persons. On the ground, 30 sets of heavy machinery, including excavators and loaders, have been mobilized to support the operation. Rescue personnel are conducting systematic and thorough searches, progressing methodically from upstream to downstream areas. To address the challenging hydrological conditions, rescue teams have implemented diversion measures by digging channels and redirecting water flow to accelerate the pace of rescue operations. Meanwhile, in Xinglongshan Village of Chengguan Township, officers and soldiers from the Gansu Corps of the Chinese People's Armed Police worked alongside local residents, coordinating with large machinery to clear mud and debris from main roads and assist villagers in moving their belongings to safer locations. As search and rescue operations continue, authorities are conducting assessments of the affected regions, with efforts focused on saving lives and supporting impacted communities.
