Crackdown on unlicensed pub uncovers 'mass drug use among 170 partygoers' in Bangkok
Police allegedly discovered more than 170 alleged drug users in a raid on an unlicensed pub near Bangkok.
Cops stormed the Skin Pub in Pathum Thani amid a crackdown on drug distribution in entertainment venues across Thailand.
Dramatic footage shows officers from the Department of Provincial Administration special operations unit swooping in on the venue, where they found more than 380 patrons drinking and dancing during a loud rave.
Police halted the revelery as some customers reportedly tried to flee the establishment. They said 173 people tested positive for drugs while seven were underage. The individuals were detained and sent for rehabilitation according to the legal process.
The manager was arrested and charged with operating an entertainment venue without a licence, selling alcohol beyond the legally prescribed hours, selling alcohol to a person under 20 years old, and encouraging or promoting inappropriate behaviour by minors.
Authorities said the raid was conducted following complaints about drug use at the pub.
Nirat Phongsitthaworn, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, said: 'The Department of Provincial Administration is enforcing the urgent policy by Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who is committed to addressing the drug problem to create a peaceful society, an orderly nation, free from vices, and a sense of security for the people.
'The administrative sector will work with relevant agencies to strictly regulate entertainment venues to prevent them from becoming sources of drug distribution, ensuring a safe Thai society, in accordance with the policy of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.'
