Wildfire in northwestern Türkiye leads to evacuations, transport disruptions

3. VARIOUS OF BURNING RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS CANAKKALE, TÜRKİYE - AUG. 11, 2025: A forest fire broke out Monday, Aug. 11, in the Dardanos area of Kepez town in Türkiye’s northwestern Canakkale province, prompting large-scale firefighting efforts and precautionary evacuations, local authorities said.
The blaze, fueled by strong winds, spread rapidly after erupting for unknown reasons in a wooded area, the Canakkale Governor’s Office said in a statement.
Firefighting teams, forest service water trucks and aerial units were dispatched to the scene.
Canakkale Governor Omer Toraman said residents were evacuated by land and sea as a precaution, with 14 people treated for smoke inhalation and no life-threatening injuries.
