Restaurant closed for using air-con water for cooking
A restaurant was ordered to close after food safety inspectors discovered it was using condensed air-conditioning water for cooking.
Authorities shut down Jidongjia Braised Rice Pot in Jiangsu, China, after uncovering that the establishment used filthy, condensed water to prepare noodles and mushrooms.
Footage shows a hose attached to the cooling system dripping water into a bucket, with two additional containers storing vermicelli noodles and edible fungi intended for customers on August 1.
The Market Supervision and Administration Bureau confirmed the restaurant held a valid business licence and a small restaurant registration certificate, but operated without dine-in service.
Local media reported that the restaurant manager is currently cooperating with authorities but was unable to explain when the video was recorded or why the pipe was positioned over the bucket.
Officials said the restaurant received a rectification order; its food was sealed and sampled, and its products were removed from delivery platforms.
The venue remains closed while investigations continue.
A spokesperson for the Market Supervision and Administration Bureau said: 'We will intensify food safety supervision across the district and will release the case findings to the public once the investigation is complete.'
